| Although
the engine has been in there a few years now I still
get the same questions through e-mail which is the
main reason for this site.
I
will try to keep the code numbers for parts out of
this to keep it simple. The transmission sits in the
same location as stock all though I did use the unit
that comes in the MK2T. In fact you could use two of
the SC mounts, the far left and the rear will bolt
right up. These mounts will not last under the power
of the second generation motor so I wouldn't plan on
using them for long, I didn't. The front tranny
mount and right engine mount will take some fab
work. A new mounting point will have to be fabbed
and welded to the chassis for the engine mount. I am
using the SC axels which seem plenty strong and the
shaft diameter is the same size as the MK2 axels.
You can also use the MK2 axels and carrier shaft
bearing and the outer CV joints from an SC.
There has to be some fab work done to the frame to
make enough room for motor movement around the
alternator or you could go with the Celica All-Trac
Alternator location. I had to cut a hole in my rear
firewall to make room for the intake and then make a
cover for it (shown below). After finding places to
mount everything all you have left is the
electrical. All the stock 88 gauges work fine with
the 3S ECU and sensors except for the oil gauge. The
MK2 comes with an idiot light and the MK1 has a
gauge. To fix this it's just a matter of changing
the sending unit over to the 4AGE style. Then all
you have to do is make the 3S wiring harness and ECU
work the the 88 Chassis wiring and relays :) |

| As far
as upgrades go, I would recommend changing the fuel
pump to either the MK2 pump or if you are planning
on running a lot more HP now is the time to put in a
pump which can handle more volume. My car has now
got a list of mods: 95 Supra Turbo Fuel Pump, Speaco
Intercooler, HKS VPC, apexi ITC, apexi SAFC, 20G
Turbo with External 35mm Tial, HKS super sequential,
Aeromotive ARRFPR, Greddy down pipe. Custom 3"
exhaust and an opened up fuel rail. The list goes on
but this is the bulk of it as far as power goes. |
