My Waste Gate page is really a conversion from a 20G internal gate to an external 35mm Tial. Many MR2 owners have the GReddy TD06SH Turbo kit on the MK2's and the big conversation on the MR2 message board is how to stop the creep with this kit and a free flowing exhaust. In efforts to eliminate creep I had done several mods to my exhaust housing including; opening up the port, changing to a dual port actuator, increasing the travel on the arm and door opening. All these mods resulted in two final outcomes.

1. no creep past 14psi.

2. A really hot internal gate (door) bouncing down the highway behind the car after a second gear pull, embedding its self in the next passersby's tire.

Okay, no more playing around. External here I come! On the top right you can see I have cut the internal gate area away from the housing. On the left you can see how the door is missing completely from the arm.

Here, on the left you can see the stock port in the Exhaust housing. It has already been opened up from stock but on the right you can see I have made a smoother path for exhaust flow to the External piping that will be added.
On the left you can see the hole that needs to be filled where bypassed exhaust gasses were moved back into the exhaust flow after the turbine. On the right you can see the now non-restrictive entrance to the bypass passage. It was important to make the wastegate passages as free flowing as possible to avoid any chance of boost creep from a restrictive path making a higher exhaust pressure.
A plug was made out of mild steel to fill the hole and some thin wall stainless mandrel bends were cut to make the shape needed for the location of the new Tial 35mm.
The left shows another shot of the plug that was made to block of the old return passage. On the right is the finished housing with every thing in place. Once it was installed on the car you can see how it works.
